Broom (Cytisus), lilac (Syringa), Lantana, garden rose (Rosa) and Mexican orange blossom (Choisya) not only have fabulous flowers, but all bring a further experience to a garden or terrace with their remarkable fragrance. All five are woody plants that are easy to care for, and can be planted both in beds and in pots, containers and tubs. The scent and colour attract bumblebees, honeybees and butterflies, so these fragrant feature plants also liven things up a little more, and contribute to a healthy biotope in their environment.
Bathroom plants all like shade, high temperatures and high humidity – similar to the conditions that are found in a rainforest (and the bathroom). And they fit in perfectly with the interiors trend where a room is more than just somewhere to dash in and out of and becomes a space to enjoy for a good start, or relaxing end to the day. The Bathroom plants have been specially selected to be displayed together for optimum effect.
No flower so fittingly illustrates the blooming strength of May as the peony. The buds are balls of compressed energy that – when the time comes – open very quickly and smell beautiful. The single-flowered peonies then display a fabulous heart, whilst the double-flowered varieties produce a cheerful full mophead of soft petals. They can have a diameter of 15-18cm, and are particularly offered in white, various shades of pink and claret. They flower in May and June, and offer a romantic taste of the summer to come.
